Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is the most abundant type of RNA in cells (constituting approximately 80% of total RNA) as it forms the structural and catalytic part of ribosomes, which are required in large numbers for protein synthesis. Transfer RNA (tRNA) makes up about 10-15%, and Messenger RNA (mRNA) constitutes only about 5% of the total RNA.
