Amino acids and glucose are included under the category of primary metabolites as they have identifiable functions and play known roles in normal physiological processes. Rubber, gums, morphine, codeine, vinblastin and curcumin are included under the category of secondary metabolites as their role or functions in host organisms is not known yet.
