Synapsis is the process of pairing of homologous chromosomes which takes place during the Zygotene stage of Prophase I of Meiosis . It is not a feature of mitosis. In contrast, the disappearance of the nucleolus , the formation of spindle fibres , and chromosome movement are all characteristic events of mitosis.
