Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) possesses a layered structure that is very similar to that of graphite. In its structure, planar networks of interconnected hexagonal rings are formed by alternating boron and nitrogen atoms. Due to this striking structural resemblance to graphite, hexagonal boron nitride is often referred to as 'inorganic graphite'.
