NAD+ acts as a coenzyme that accepts electrons and hydrogen atoms during various steps of cellular respiration (such as the conversion of PGAL to BPGA in glycolysis and multiple steps in the Krebs' cycle), getting reduced to NADH + H+. It effectively carries these electrons to the Electron Transport System where they are oxidised.
