Double fertilisation is a unique phenomenon in flowering plants involving two fusion events within the embryo sac. It consists of syngamy, where one male gamete fuses with the egg cell to form a diploid zygote, and triple fusion, where the second male gamete fuses with the two polar nuclei in the central cell to produce the triploid primary endosperm nucleus (PEN) .
